Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud (Arabic: الأمير بندر بن سعود بن عبد العزيز آل سعود) (1926 – 2016) was the eighth son of King Saud bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.[2] He was born on the same day his grandfather, King Abdul Aziz, entered and joined the city and province of Qunfudah to his realm. Prior to his death, he was the eldest surviving member of the ruling branch of the House of Saud.[3]

His life

Born in the city of Riyadh on 2 January 1926 (1346 AH), Bandar grew up under the care of his father, King Saud and his mother Nayla (Um Musaed) [4] and studied at the School of princes and at other schools in Riyadh, finishing his complimentary studies in 1944 (1364 AH) before graduating from high school in 1948 (1368 AH). He then went to university in Turkey, graduating in 1952 (1371 AH).

Career

Prince Bandar bin Saud returned in early 1952 (1371 AH) to Saudi Arabia where his father, crown prince at the time, assigned him to the Interior Ministry. A few years later, in 1956 (1376 AH), his uncle and then Crown Prince Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud appointed him as an adviser to the royal court; a position he held until his retirement in 1981 (1401 AH).[5]
