Balwinder Singh Bhunder

Balwinder Singh Bhunder is an Indian politician, currently a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India, from the state of Punjab. He is a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal party.^[1] He is a former MLA from sardulgarh,Distt.MANSA. He served as Cabinet minister for agriculture in 1977-80. (Member, Punjab Legislative Asembly)

Biography

He was born September 20, 1944 in the Village Bhunder, Sardulgarh, Mansa district in the state of Punjab, to Sardar Boota Singh and Shrimati Surjit Kaur. He is married to Shrimati Balwant Kaur.^[1] They have two sons, Balraj Singh And Dilraj Singh. His son Balraj singh died in 2007 at the age of 40.

Political career

He Was imprisoned for six months during the Emergency; participated in agitations for the welfare of farmers; was jailed four times in connection with farmers' agitations; President, All India Kisan Wing, Shiromani Akali Dal; General Secretary, Shiromani Akali Dal.
