American Business & Technology University is an online-based technical university. Founded in 2001 as the American College of Technology. The school's physical headquarters is at the Wyeth Mansion in St. Joseph, Missouri.[1]

History

Founded in St. Joseph by Sam Atieh, who wrote two books focusing on online education, the original platform website building. The school became the American College of Technology in 2001.[1][2] In 2002, the school became Missouri's first solely online school when it received the Coordinating Board for Higher Education's approval and started to offer associate degree.[1][3] The College was later approved to accept G.I. Bill funding.[4]

In 2008, the college focused on including capabilities of the then new iPod Touch into the online component of courses in an attempt to highlight emerging technology.[4]

The school purchased the Wyeth Mansion in St. Joseph in December 2013 to house physical classes, replacing the school's previous physical space on North Belt Highway in St. Joseph. At that time, the school had 1,700 students across 30 states with 50 employees.[1] In February 2014, the American College was approved for university status by the Missouri Department of Higher Education and the Distance Education and Training Council.[5][6] The school name officially changed to American Business & Technology University in April 2014.[2][6]

Programs

The college originally offered retraining services, but expanded to include technical diplomas and bachelor's degrees in global economy, health information technology, criminal justice and computer programming. Lectures are streamed and recorded from the university's physical headquarters and delivered through the website with enrollment held eight times in a year.[7] A master's of business administration program launched in 2013.[7][8] The school, primarily based online, also has some programs that use hands-on training.[1]
