|Group:||Group IV ((+)ssRNA)|
Alvernaviridae is a family of viruses. Dinoflagellates serve as natural hosts. There is currently only one species in this family: the type species Heterocapsa circularisquama RNA virus 01. Diseases associated with this family include: control of the host population possibly through lysis of the host cell.

Viral replication is cytoplasmic. Entry into the host cell is achieved by penetration into the host cell. Replication follows the positive stranded RNA virus replication model. Positive stranded RNA virus transcription is the method of transcription. Dinoflagellates serve as the natural host.
