Agoda Company Pte Ltd is an Online Travel Agency (OTA) based in Singapore[2] that offers accommodation booking services through its website and mobile app. Agoda.com is reported to be the only Asia-based online travel company to hold a spot within the top six, according to data from industry observer, Skift.[3][4][5][6] It offers its service in 38 different languages, with various types of accommodations included in its inventory, from hotels and b&bs to beach resorts, rest houses and homestays.[7]

Agoda Company Pte Ltd is part of The Priceline Group.

History

Agoda.com was originally established in Thailand. In 2007, The Priceline Group acquired Agoda Company Pte Ltd.[8] The company launched its mobile app in 2011. Supported on Android and iOS devices, the app offers full booking functionality in multiple languages.[9]

Product

Agoda.com is known for collecting upfront payment for room nights booked on the company’s website or mobile app, an approach known as the Merchant Model in the online travel industry.[10] The company lists over 940,000 properties worldwide on its website.

The company claims to specialize in providing discounted room rates [11][12] and offers a “Best Price Guarantee”, which promises to match or beat lower prices offered by other vendors.[13][14]

Like other major OTAs, the company's hotel management system gives properties autonomy to control rates and availability, or to create tailored promotions according to season and occupancy. Also Agoda.com is one of the few travel agencies that is venturing into the purchase of Timehsare memberships for inventory. [15]
