Aegon UK is a pension, insurance and investment company based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Aegon UK is the brand name for Scottish Equitable plc and it is a subsidiary of Aegon N.V. a multi-national life insurance, pension and asset management company headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands.

History

The Scottish Equitable Life Assurance Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1831 and in 1861 it began paying out its first pension to Robert Christie.

In 1994, the company became Scottish Equitable plc with Aegon N.V. buying a 40% stake in the business. Aegon N.V. increased that stake to 100% by 1998.

In 2006 Scottish Equitable plc was rebranded as Aegon Scottish Equitable and in 2009 this was shortened to Aegon, although the legal entity is still Scottish Equitable plc.

Products and customers

Aegon UK has individual and corporate customers. It sells a range of pensions, annuities, life insurance, protection insurance and investment products to individual customers. To corporate customers it sells a range of pensions and actuarial and trustee solutions.

Aegon UK has over 2 million customers and approximately 2,100 staff working from its Edinburgh headquarters.

Sponsorship

In 2009, Aegon UK became the first ever Lead Partner of British Tennis. The agreement with the Lawn Tennis Association has since been renewed and will run until 2017.[1][2]

Aegon UK’s sponsorship covers grassroots programmes in schools and parks, support for talent development and sponsorship of tournaments. These include the Aegon Classic, the Aegon International and the Aegon Championships, an ATP World tour 250 series event held at the Queen's Club, London, in June each year.

In addition the sponsorship extends to both the junior and senior GB teams for the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup.

Charity

The Aegon Breakfast Club launched in 2007.[3]

Aegon has their very own Charity Committee which supports their nominated charities as voted for by the staff each year and in 2013 donated £51,000 to a range of nominated charities. In 2014, its nominated charities are Alzheimer’s Scotland, CCLASP and Michelle Henderson Cervical Cancer Trust.[4]

In 2014 the Aegon UK charity committee went one better and raised £66,666 for the 3 nominated charities.

The charities nominated for 2015 are Macmillan Cancer Support, The Yard and Radio Forth Cash for Kids.
