Adam Clayton Powell III

Adam Clayton Powell III (born 1946) is an American journalist, media executive, and scholar who currently serves as Director of Washington Policy Initiatives for the University of Southern California and University Fellow at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy. He was USC's vice provost for globalization from 2007 through 2010.[1]

Powell is the son of Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. and jazz musician Hazel Scott. He is the ex-husband of Beryl Powell, daughter of Eileen Slocum and John Slocum.[2] Adam C. Powell IV (the engineer, not to be confused with the politician) is his son.

Before joining USC, Powell's career included positions at the Freedom Forum, NPR, CBS News, 1010 WINS in New York City (as news director), Quincy Jones Entertainment, and as general manager of Howard University’s WHUT-TV.
