The regiment served in Egypt, Syria, New Guinea and Borneo. The regiment's involvement in the fighting in New Guinea saw it committed to several campaigns, including those around Salamaua and on the Huon Peninsula.[1] It was disbanded in late 1945.[2] Throughout its involvement in the war, a total of 1,923 men served with the 2/6th Field Regiment of whom 19 were killed, and 61 wounded.[3] The regiment consisted of three numbered batteries: 10th, 11th, and 56th.[4]
