Description:
Fabric has managed to attract a glut of DJs, and with them a wealth of talent and night upon night of exciting, refreshing and groundbreaking tunes.
One of those DJs, a mainstay in the club since it opened, is Terry Francis. The second in the series from Fabric sees the tech-house (a term he's not too pleased at adopting) wizard chopping his usual three hour set down to a mini non-stop marathon of seventy two minutes.
The one-take mix eases gently in with Chateau Flight's distinctive 'Welcome', a warm-up track of atmospheric synths and random beats. The tempo then, as with Francis' live sets, steadily increases through The Logic Box's dreamstate house to Floppy Sounds' hard edged 'Doing Shows' then the very impressive and ultra funky 'Frostreet' by Gruvhaus. Yes it's only half way through and looking a mighty fine contender for airtime at any up and coming Christmas gathering.
With this very simplistic yet uplifting sound Francis can pull off a pounding dance floor without having to revert to cheesy vocals or recognisable samples. It could almost be one for the African warlord fraternity with the overwhelming succession of hypnotic mantras - percussion and keyboard.
But, unlike his predecessor and king of eclectica James Lavelle, who used an array of musical styles in his mix, Francis sticks resolutely to one sound, the deeper tougher side of house. Combustible feature as does the penultimate soulful triumph of Blakkat feat, Mark Bell 'Deeper' and the grand finale's jazz based 'My Love' by Haris and Stubbs. With tracks such as these it's easy to see why his weekly residency remains.
Fabric continue to hold their heads high.
