答：有學者認為，farther是far（遠）的比較級詞語，因此，說距離，應用farther。不過，一般人都以further當作farther的同義詞，例如第五版《朗文當代高級英漢雙解詞典》further條有以下一句：The walked a little further（他們再稍稍前行）。這一句的further當然可用farther取代。
留意除了說遠近，farther不可和further通用。例如to pay no further notice to something（不再理會某事）、to question someone further（向某人再問下去）、to make a further payment（再次付款）等，那further都不可改為farther。
問：貴欄四月二十三日有以下例句：I will be back at about two o'clock in the afternoon（下午兩點鐘左右，我就會回來）。但at據說不可和about、around等字連用，因為at是指一個準確的時間，about和around則有「大約」、「大概」的不準確意思，對嗎？
