Description:
Madlib inhabits a special spot in our heart, pretty much everything he touches turns to gold and we're not sure why. Apparently the man is pretty darn prolific, spending most of his time in the studio pumping out tracks like a trooper under too many pseudonyms to list, but occasionally he manages to find the time to throw down some of his insane knowledge into a dj mix. We've all fallen in love with the series so far, exploring the outer realms of funk, jazz and hip hop, approaching each style with an obscurest knowledge which makes us all jealous, and this fifth instalment is no disappointment. With the first forty minutes taken up by tracks picked out of dirty crates around the world, we have a masterclass in funk, dub, early electronics and random psychedelic nonsense. I'd be hard pressed to find more creative DJs out there at the moment, and every second of the mix is pure sugar for all you musos out there. Even better though, thrown onto the cd is a full live show recorded in LA, with Madlib showing how he can cut it outside the confines of his studio. Pure heat.
