Jest to pierwszy dość znany album Sepultury. Po jego niewątpliwym sukcesie zespół wyruszył w swoją pierwszą trasę koncertową poza granice Brazylii. O klasie Beneath The Remains najlepiej świadczy fakt, iż został on okrzyknięty najlepszym albumem thrash metalowym roku. Jeśli o muzykę na nim zaprezentowaną chodzi, to jest ona kontynuacją poprzedniego stylu, tylko że bardziej rozwiniętego i dojrzalszego. Przyrównania do Slayera oczywiście były, a dokładniej do Reign In Blood, z czym może i mógłbym się zgodzić, ale Sepultura jest przecież lepsza:), a tak serio to Reign In Blood nie słyszałem, więc trudno mi ożec co lepsze i do czego podobne... W końcu ktoś wpadł na genialny pomysł, by odpowiednio nastroić i ustawić gitary - teraz już brzmią o wiele czyściej niż na poprzednich albumach. Jak każdy już zapewne zauważył - jest 9 utworów, z których znów ciężko wybrać najlepszy. Tytułowy, swego czasu (za czasów Maxa) często grany na koncertach - ciężki i szybki, może się podobać, a mnie nawet bardzo. Inner Self jest również bardzo dobrym kawałkiem, a jego nagranie live znajduje się na albumie The Roots Of Sepultura - tam jest znacznie szybszy, co dodaje mu świeżości, ale tutaj brzmi wręcz doskonale i świetnie się go słucha. Mass Hypnosis, którego cover znalazł się zdaje się na najnowszej płycie Children Of Bodom, również jest dość znany i lubiany, oczywiście dość szybki i ciężki, jak i cały Beneath The Remains.

Podsumowując - album godny zakupu i uwagi. Szczególnie łakomy kąsek dla wszystkich, kórzy lubują się w szybkich, thrashowych gitarach i katowaniu perkusji. (free.of.pl/s/sepulcenter)

After their two rather extremely chaotic and more Death Metal like records "Morbid Visions" ('86) and "Schizophrenia" ('87), the Brazilian Thrashers of SEPULTURA released in 1989 a true crusher.

On "Beneath The Remains", the guys offer us nine respectively ten (inclusive bonus track) pure Thrash diamonds. Just the titletrack and opener break up your scullcap. They thrash straight forward like SLAYER or SODOM. With tracks like the classic "Inner Self" or "Stronger Than Hate", you can't hold on your hair (if you have some). The guitar- and even on this album vocalduo Max Cavalera/Andreas Kisser unleashes one killerriff after another through the speakers. The guitarsound on "Beneath..." reminds me very much of the first two METALLICA records. The drumsound could be a bit better because it's slightly too bright and rattling. The bassdrum is good to recognize, but the crashs drown the complete sound a bit. But who cares about it with such an album.

In the 80s, SLAYER hadn't also the best sound in their first years and nevertheless they released the best records. "Beneath..." can absolutely compete with "Hell Awaits", but don' let us remain with such comparisons. Better to bang further to the shock waves of hammers like "Slaves Of Pain" or "Lobotomy" and enjoy our Metal life. SEPULTURA never become monotonous or boring. Despite the fast tempo, the Brazilians never forget to place some skilful breaks or tempo changes. One ingenious riffstorm runs on one another. Wonderful!

Personally, "Beneath The Remains" belongs besides "Arise" to the best SEPULTURA records ever. Later, the group was never such fast, mangily and easygoing like on this record. No tribal sounds, no Hardcore approach, just straight forward. Fans of the Old School know what I mean. One of the ten best Thrash records ever. It belongs to every collection.
