Aragon Nest Proposal: Open Badges

Abstract

Connected, verifiable credentials represented in portable image files.

Open Badges are visual tokens (not blockchain tokens, but like an seal/distinctive/diploma/badge) of achievement, affiliation, authorization, or other trust relationship sharable across the web. Open Badges represent a more detailed picture than a CV or résumé as they can be presented in ever-changing combinations, creating a constantly evolving picture of a person’s lifelong learning.

NEW - See which products are Open Badges v2.0 (OBv2) certified by IMS Global!

Thousands of organizations across the world issue Open Badges, from non-profits to major employers to educational institutions at every level.

The above text is from openbadges.org

Note: I don't have skills to make it working, but to propose it; then you're free to begin implementing it on a pull request and receive your grants.

It can be compatible with a future education app/platform for Aragon, that will be useful for training from newbies to new skilled employees/contributors on DAOs. The only and really working educational method is the one that isn't making you bored, but pleasured with achievements and badges.

Deliverables

  1. An aragonOS-compatible application (the open badges platform) that lets people Understand, Issue, Earn and Display their badges
  2. An template/API where other apps can display badges in user's profile
  3. Compatibility with other apps, to send open badges according to events
  4. Voting to create/design new badges, and to send to an user
  5. Evidence of badge's task completion link is immutable
  6. Badge can be revoked, if user needs to update their skills or for other reason
  7. Issue the Open Badges as Ethereum collectibles (ERC-1155 - this ERC enables to send an unlimited amount of the same badge for same user, as an repeated achievement)
  8. An DAO can send badges to members of other DAOs
  9. Other needed things; open for suggestions

Grant size

Funding: from $50k up to $100k in ETH, split into chunks paid out over achieved deliverables.

Success reward: Up to $50k in ANT, given out when all deliverables are ready.

Application requirements

  • Proof of concept of the smart contracts for the ERC1155-compatible token. Alternatively, a whitepaper researching the implementation of the whole protocol
  • Details of the team members, alongside with their willingness in terms of implication
  • Estimated average burn rate for completing the deliverables
  • Legal structure to be adopted, if any

Development timeline

To be discussed or to be proposed by the team requesting funds.

Hi @DaniellMesquita thanks a lot for your submitting your proposal.

We will issue a post on the things that the Nest program will focus on in 2019. Meanwhile, we are not approving this proposal since open badges are not a priority for the Aragon project.

Thank you for your interest and participation!
