Płyta 'Intensive Care' została nagrana w USA, w domu Robbiego Williamsa (Hollywood Hills). Jej współautorem jest Stephen Duffy. Całość powstała w przeciągu dwóch lat. W tym czasie obaj panowie prowadzili muzyczne eksperymenty, tworząc piosenki, które brzmiały na przemian jak Gang Of Four, Bloc Party i Kraftwerk, w końcu zdecydowali się na styl, który najbardziej im odpowiadał. "Jest to płyta, która zawiera moje najlepsze teksty," mówi Robbie, "Chociaż oczywiście twierdzę to samo w przypadku każdej kolejnej płyty. Ale wydaje mi się, że tym razem mam naprawdę rację. In true Robbie style, Williams claims this album to be the best lyrically he has ever written. And whilst some may consider this arrogant - a trait in itself synonymous with the British rocker, I'd have to agree with him on the most part. I know he's not exactly going to turn around and denounce his latest endeavour, but that combined with his neatly-timed support for Moss during the 'cocaine Kate' scandal, made for some handy PR near the time of his eighth album release In another strategic move, this is the first time Williams has launched an album outside the UK. In early October he performed a one-off concert to a sold-out audience in Berlin, which was filmed and then broadcast directly into cinemas across Europe. Intensive Care sees a change in direction from pure pop status to a deeper, perhaps more thought-out album. Some tracks remain inherently pop, with lyrics that don't quite reflect his experience in the industry, but then others are intelligent, well-crafted numbers that are guaranteed to join his numerous high-ranking singles. You'll already recognise the cocky but catchy little number 'Tripping' with its addictive hook and falsetto, and equally unusual video clip, but if you're one of those people that needs at least four hit tracks before you buy an album, then I can also recommend 'Advertising Space,' 'Your Gay Friend,' 'The Trouble With Me' and 'A Place To Crash'. 'King Of Bloke And Bird,' also finishes the album with a spacey unconventional instrumental. There's also a lot more religious sentiment this time. Perhaps Robbie's more in touch with himself or maybe he's just hoping all his notorious behaviour will be forgiven. One thing's for sure, his departure with songwriter Guy Chambers for Stephen Duffy, who co-wrote Intensive Care, has not marked the anticipated end for Robbie Williams. This is an album that shows off all sides of Williams with songs both frivolous and melancholic, and is well worth adding to your Robbie collection. 8/10 EMI
