Operation Air Assault 2 to sequel stworzonego przez firmę InterActive Vision symulatora lotu śmigłowcem bojowym (w Polsce znanego pod nazwą Operacja Pustynny Grom). Gracz, podobnie jak w poprzedniej części, walczy z terroryzmem, zasiadając za sterami helikoptera i biorąc udział w wielu niebezpiecznych misjach w okolicy Syberii i na wyspach Pacyfiku.
Autorzy, zachęceni sukcesem pierwszej odsłony gry, zdecydowali się ją znacznie ulepszyć i uczynić jeszcze ciekawszą. W tym celu przede wszystkim poprawiono model lotu śmigłowca oraz oprawę audiowizualną – tekstury są teraz w wyższej rozdzielczości, lepiej prezentuje się też dynamiczne oświetlenie i wszelkiego rodzaju efekty specjalne. Na ukończenie ponownie czeka ponad 30 misji, które rozgrywać można na trzech poziomach trudności: łatwym, średnim i trudnym. Możliwy jest również wybór trybu lotu: realistyczny bądź zręcznościowy.
Ponownie do dyspozycji gracza oddane zostały cztery rodzaje broni, które doskonale sprawują się w walce z wrogimi jednostkami – m.in. czołgami, łodziami czy też helikopterami. Autorzy zdecydowali się ponadto na umożliwienie graczom rozgrywanie całej kampanii bądź też tylko pojedynczych misji.
