Pewnie myślicie, że zgłupiałem, pisząc o EP zawierającej... 2 kawałki. Cóż, wierzcie lub nie, są to dwa najlepsze utwory w dyskografii Summoning. Ciekawe skąd mogą pochodzić? Oczywiście z sesji do "Dol Guldur" (z tego okresu pochodzi "Saruman" - "Arcenstone" był przeznaczony dla solowego projektu). Tym razem nie poprawiano niczego, tylko dostaliśmy muzykę prosto z roku 1996. Można zatem wysnuć wniosek, że już wcześniej panowie trochę eksperymentowali z samplami, bo te wypełniają całe 17 minut krążka.

Nie przedłużając - niesamowite dzieło! "Arcenstone" nie zawiera gitar, cały klimat budują klawisze (kult!), bębny i sample. Oczywiście, po raz kolejny atmosfera Śródziemia została oddana nienagannie. "Here Thorin, lay your Arcenstone, upon your breast and let it lay there untill the moutain falls and may it bring good fortune to all your folk that dwell here after". Żaden fan Tolkiena nie powinien czuć się zawiedzony. O takim zjawisku jak "Arcenstone" nie powinno się pisać, tego należy posłuchać. Jeszcze raz wznoszę okrzyk - "The adventure starts my friend off we go!".


"Saruman" rozpoczyna się wręcz jak żywo wzięty z filmu fragment dialogu. "Saruman! Saruman come forth!". "I am Sarum the white, Saruman of many colours". Po wolnym i dusznym "Arcenstone", "Saruman" jest dynamiczny i bardzo rytmiczny (perkusja!). Po raz kolejny powtarzam - tego trzeba posłuchać! Jak dla mnie rewelacja, uwielbiam kosztować tych fragmentów, rozkoszując się wspaniałym klimatem tych nagrań. Skoro wracamy do czasów "Dol Guldur", co sugeruje nawet okładka, ocena nie może być inna. Gorąco polecam.

Actually the material included in this single release may not be considered as brand new, as it contains unreleased songs from 1997 to 1999. The first song “Arkenstone” was a song that was meant to be part of a project called MIRKWOOD (that finally did not work out as it seemed) and the second one “Saruman” is an unreleased track composed at the time of “Dol guldur”. Ok, both songs are not so well produced, but this was intended from the band in order to keep the sound of the original tapes. Also neither vocals nor guitars has been used in order to keep the originally soundtrack style of the band. The band itself within the booklet of this release provides all this information. On my opinion, “Lost tales” is referred to the fans of the band that are craving for new material from SUMMONING. But still two rehearsal-sound tracks is not enough for SUMMONING. “Arkenstone” is a really deep, epic song, with hypnotic tunes and a great essence of deliverance. Every SUMMONING fan will surely love it. “Saruman” is a more experimental, “strange” song with “minimalistic” melodies. Concluding “Lost tales” is a rather poor release for the fans of SUMMONING, for the rest, I would suggest to check out their whole discography.
