APG II'ye göre, Asclepiadaceae, şimdi Apocynaceae altındaki Asclepiadoideae subfamilyası olarak kabul edilen eski bir bitki familyasıdır.[1] Tamamı Gentianales takımına ait olan daimi otlar, sargın çalılar ya da nadiren ağaçlardan özellikle de önemli sayıda sulu ağaç gövdelerinden oluşan bir gruptur. Adı tipik cinsi olan Asclepias (eşek marulları)'tan gelmektedir.

Yaklaşık 2900 tür içeren 348 cinsten oluşur. Çoğunlukla Afrika ve Güney Amerika'daki tropikal ve astropikal bölgelerde görülür.
