Colombo Club

The Colombo Club is one of the oldest gentlemen's clubs in Sri Lanka. Established on March 4, 1871 by prominent British colonialist in the island at the Colpity Race Course Grandstand. The most exclusive club in the country, its membership was limited to British and Europeans until Ceylon gained independence in 1948, thereafter membership was extended to Ceylonese. By tradition the Patron and president of the club was the Governor of Ceylon.

The club has since moved out of its former club house to a premises at the Oberroi Hotel (currently Cheers Pub, Cinnamon Grand Hotel) and as at present housed within the Taj Samudra hotel, which is a member of the Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces.
