Richard Deitz

Richard Andrew Deitz (born August 1965) is an American hedge fund manager who is President, Founder, and Fund Manager of Moscow-based VR Capital and one of the founders of Renaissance Capital.[1][2][3][4]

Education

Deitz graduated with a degree in economics and history from Yale University in 1987.[5]

Career

Deitz started his career at The First Boston Corporation in 1987. From 1991-1995, he served as Managing Director at Credit Suisse International and in 1995, he cofounded Renaissance Capital.[5]

Deitz founded VR Capital in 1998.[6] VR Capital specializes in distressed debt in global emerging markets where bankruptcy and judiciary practices are suspect through its flagship fund, VR Global Partners, which oversees roughly $3 billion in onshore and offshore versions.[7][8] The fund has taken significant positions in State Savings Bank of Ukraine, Ukraine’s state-run energy company NAK Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russia’s Brunswick Rail.[5][9] In the first 10 months of 2010, VR Capital achieved a 49 percent return and in 2015, returned 14.7 percent, ranking 28th in the Bloomberg list of top-performing large hedge funds.[9]

Board memberships

He has served as a Commissioner of PT BFI Finance Indonesia Tbk since 2009 and also serves as a member of the board of advisors at The Yale School of Management.[5] He also serves of the President's Council on International Activities and on the Jackson Institute Council at Yale University.[6]

Personal life

Deitz is married to Marina Nacheva.[10]
