DeKalb County Fire and Rescue
DeKalb County Fire and Rescue is the exclusive provider of Fire services for the unincorporated areas of DeKalb County, Georgia. The agency also serves incorporated cities in the county with the exception of Decatur and the small portion of Atlanta that extends into DeKalb County from the city's eastern fringes. Stone Mountain Park which is located within the county is served by its own separate department. It still relies on the county for assistance with regards to fire- related incidents. The department serves a population in excess of 700,000. DeKalb County, Georgia is the state's largest in terms of population density. In 2015, the agency responded to over 110,000 calls for fire and EMS emergencies; which is more than any other Fire Department in Georgia, including Atlanta.
Composition
DeKalb County Fire and Rescue consists of 26 fire stations with assorted apparatus. There is one training facility with live burn capabilities located on the south side of the county in Panthersville near Interstates 20 and 285. All firefighters within the agency are also Georgia certified EMT's or Paramedics. With this certification, crews also respond to calls for Emergency Medical Services.
Ambulance Services
Prior to July 6, 2010, the department operated its own Advanced Life Support Rescues (Ambulances) out of each of its 26 stations. The County government then awarded a new 911 contract to provide emergency ambulance services to Rural Metro. Following the contract, the department cut its ambulance fleet in half. In June 2013, the county government contracted with American Medical Response (AMR) to provide 911 ambulance services countywide. Following the AMR contract, the department ceased the entirety, with the exception of one, of its ambulances. The lone county Advanced Life Support Rescue (Ambulance) is housed almost centrally at Station 22.

- The Cities of Atlanta and Decatur, as well as Stone Mountain Park have separate, independent Fire Departments. These departments do not provide ambulances for transportation of patients and therefore rely on DeKalb County and American Medical Response for ambulance services.
