A native of Oxford, Michigan, Chapie attended Lake Orion High School and played for the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the Central States Hockey League in 2009-10. He then spent two years with the New Mexico Mustangs of the North American Hockey League (2010–2012),[1] leading the team in points (57) and goals scored (31) during the 2011–12 campaign.

Immediately after completing his college career, he was signed to a 1 year entry level contract by the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL) and sent to their affiliate Hartford Wolfpack of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an amateur try-out agreement.[3] He is currently a member of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the ECHL for the 2016-17 season.
